I have a ’95 4.0 liter XJS. Do the face lift models use one or more ignition modules to control the firing of each plug coil or is that a function of the ECU/ECM? If ignition modules are used, where are they located? Thanks.

 

I may have answered my own question. I checked the Electrical Wiring Diagram for the 1995 (4.0L) XJS, Engine Management. The diagram does not show an Ignition Module/Amplifier. Wiring, I think the ground wires, for the Ignition Coils connect directly to the HIGH POWER (BLACK) connector of the Engine Control Module (ECM). A separate Ignition Module is not indicated. So it appears that the ECM interrupts the ground for each coil in turn when needed to fire each spark plug.
Please, anyone, correct me if I am wrong. I may look under the dash, passenger side US, this weekend to see if there is an Ignition Module that is not on the drawing.

Your car's engine has silver cam cover, right? Then the ignition is controlled by the ECU directly via direct ignition coils.
So there is no ignition module on your car.

 

Yes, I have the Silver Valve Train cover. Looking at the wiring diagrams again, it looks like the V12 has two Ignition Modules. Thanks for your feedback.
