Default I'll just clean these seats...

I decided to clean my rear seats. They were dirty, dry, and needing some love. I decided to take him out to do a proper job.

This is not what I expected to find.

Apparently the PO mechanic decided he needed to screw something through the body. Then he decided no, and removed the screws. Left the holes though.

Straight through to outside. Apparently it took a while to gather this water. It was slimy. Like it had been there a long time. Fortunately the plastic covering from the factory that was still mainly on the rear seat bottom kept the water away from the cusion itself.

I cleaned it all up, treated the rust, dig out the old steel plugs that had disintegrated, and gave it a coat of enamel. A couple JB weld patches, the parchment paper releases from the hard JB and leaves a good looking surface.

Another coat tomorrow and it'll be ready for some new rubber plugs.

Got the seat cleaned too.

good looking job. Well done.

How hard is it to remove the rear seats? I've never done it.

I have my doubts the water came in through those holes unless the car was submerged in standing water past the holes.

Water probably entered somewhere else I'd keep an eye on it in the future.
I could be wrong but don't be surprised if its coming in elsewhere.

Brad,

Seat removal was literally two nuts at bottom leading edge of the seat. Then the bottom lifts out. Back sits on three slotted pieces. Lifts off.

Dwayne,

It's possible it's coming in from elsewhere. But from all indications, these were the source. I'll definately keep an eye on it though!
