Default J-Gate

The 1988 thru 1996 straight six XJ's all came with the same ZF transmission as that on the XJS. They also all came with the nice J-Gate, yet the XJS with the same gear throughout those years did not.

Based on above fact, one would think that changing the XJS' cumbersome straight gate with a highly desirable J-Gate should be a cinch.

Has anybody heard of this apparently straightforward change?

OK, I think I may have my own better news on this. My Jag mechanic says that the cable movement executed by the shift selector should be the same for both gates as far as the transmission is concerned, even when the J-Gate turns back up around the bottom of the "J". This means that I may only need the actual "J" slot and the J trim, plus the fitting onto the existing ski slope. That would be nice. I'm sure there are plenty of old wrecked XJ-40's out there.
