Default Mini panel under the gauges

I don't think that I've seen this panel before. It's a picture from an '89 car and I don't know if it came standard on all of the prefacelift cars, or not. What I'm sure of is that it doesn't belong in the facelift cars.

I see "front alarm" and "rear alarm" signs, plus some "audio sensitivity" control? So, what does this thing do?

Thank you, cheers,

That is an aftermarket, period accessory piece. Looks like some type of alarm system.

Thank you,

Cheers

I had something similar on mine in the same position, but it was a radar detector not an alarm. Definitely not the same as this, but I know for a fact that the radar detector in this position was a dealer installed aftermarket addition that my parents put in when they purchased the car in 89.

I think you are correct. I believe that it is the control panel for the old SonarRadar SS1000 radar detector. I have seen this same panel in several XJS's. Too many to be a coincidence. I think many dealers offered them at the time.

I think that SonarRadar was aquired by K40 at some point but I cant seem to find much info about the SS1000. I will keep looking.

I have something very similar. The JG2000 Radar detector. It was a Dealer installed accessory. I've got all the promotional information for it as well. I can scan and upload it if you all would like to see it. This seems more refined as it indicated which direction the radar signal is coming from.
