1996 XJS 4.0L

Can anyone tell me if there is a cabin air filter for the car. I have looked hi and low but cannot pin down.

If there is where is it located?

In the plenum cavity beneath the air intake/wiper arm grille....if you have 'em.

I think Jaguar offered these for the XJS only as an accessory item. But if any were factory installed it would've been on a very late car such as yours

If the incoming air smells musty, spray some Lysol into the air intake below the windshield with the blowers on full blast.

The car will smell like a hospital for about a week but after it clears the musty smell will be gone.

It may be worth it to remove and clean all carpet/underlay and blow out any drainage hoses I know the AC ones can clog up with mouldly ****.

 

Mouldy smell usually originates from the evaporator in the heater box, to which the AC drains are connected ...Lysol fixes it - ask me how I know.
