New to the forum - bought my 1992 XJS V12 (had 55k, now has 60xxx) in 2008 from a typical used car lot. Needless to say, that dealership was shut down months later... I'm looking for some important repairs and then additional changes to make it what I think it should be.

Door seals - these parts have been difficult to find. Both need replacing? I've looked and nothing is guaranteed to fit. My car is not a late 1992 but the VIN number hasn't matched what some sites say will fit their part numbers.

Other things
- replace the headliner inside since someone did a shoddy repair job on it.
-New 16 inch wheels. I really like the look of the 95 XJS wheels (I have wire wheels on it now). Has anyone found it difficult to replace wheels?
-New front seats (tan color)

Maybe I'll post some of these things separately after searching for them. I feel like my 1992 is stuck between very common years of up to 91 and beyond 93.

thanks

Thanks for the information. I always thought my 1992 was a facelift model. It looks different than the 1991.

If I buy the leather covers is it hard to install or do you take them to get installed by someone?

thanks again

Right, 1992 model year is a "facelift" car in the USA.

No help on the weatherstrips, sorry.

Any number of Jag wheels would work....pretty much anything up to at least 1997.

I've installed a few sets of seat covers with mixed results. Some are easier than others and some covers fit better than others. If you get into a situation where you need to add padding or adjust for a slight problem, it can get tricky. An experienced pro knows just how and where to pull, tuck, nip, stretch, and pad for the right result.

IMHO, if you have doubts, take the seats to a pro. There are a couple of times where I wish I had !

Cheers

I'll probably look into getting the seats professionally recovered in the front. I'm aiming for as pure of a restoration as possible. So many interior things to take care of. The A pillars inside and the vinyl liner that is with them needs to be replaced. They were glued at some point probably by the dealer in an attempt to hide the fact they were falling off.

Anyone have a biscuit/tan interior they are trying to part with? I can't seem to find my interior on ebay!

And thanks for all the information. I'm considering the following wheels - JAGUAR XJ12 XJ6 XJS 16" FACTORY OEM RIM WHEEL 59685 | eBay

The price is a bit outrageous so if someone has a better deal or knows of one, I'm interested. I'll keep looking until my patience runs out. I liked these since there is so much chrome on my car. The current wire wheels make the car look very very old, imo. I've had people think it was from the late 70s.

Ahh, yes the "Turbine" wheels. Very classy. Price is not bad if they are as clean as the picture shows them. If you had to get the cleaning/re-clear coat done would cost at least $150 per wheel.

Don't get me wrong. I think that wire wheels are nice, as long as someone else does the cleaning and polishing.

OK - thanks, XJSPaul. I haven't found other "turbine" wheels on craigslist (another term to look up!), so I might not have many other choices.

How will the larger rims alter the ride of the car?
