New member needs help
I have a 1989 xjs convertible .Tree fell on car in storm. 40,000 mile car . Only damage was the top and frame were destroyed. Bought new old stock top frame and canvas , never on car , only to find it must have been for newer model, the rear window opening is smaller than the one from my car. Only discovered this when we went to tranfer my rear glass to new top.Think the top with the smaller window was for a later model with rear seats. The seller wants to provide a smaller rear window . Will this work or are there other issues, ie will the boot fit correctly for example. Have had the car repainted and the last thing to be done was the installation of the top.Should I get this top off for mechanical reasons or is it just orginalitiy and a smaller rear window? The top and frame were expensive and the seller represented the top as correct for my year car. I have already installed the top frame on the car ,but could remove if it if there are other issues. Any advise would be appreciate Dom't know what to do. Thank you , Peter

Hi Peter
Sorry to hear about the tree. Glad you are keeping the car and trying to get it back on the road.
It sounds like this is a nice original car (low miles, etc) ? If so i think I would try to get the correct top for it.... I have parked my car (92 conv) next to a 96 2+2 Conv car, and I'm pretty sure the rooflines are different. I know that the 2+2 top folds in a more upright position, which means the 89 top boot probably won't fit anymore. There are planty of pre face lift XJSes being scrapped or broken for spares so getting the correct top frame, then fitting a new canvas and headliner to it shouldn't be difficult.
Let us know what you do either way......
