Default Oil Change

Hi All.. I have a 1986 jaguar xjs v12... I have ask several people what kind of oil I should use and how many qts of oil will it take with filter I guess it up to the owner what kind they prefer.. I hear 8.0 qt then 10.5 qt and this one hard to believe no less than 12.. then they say 5w 20---20w 50 and the normal 10w 40 oil.. well I'm sure somebody out there has the right info I need.. Thanks for your time

About 11 quarts

Huge variances in opinion of which brand/type oil is best. The V12 doesn't require synthetic or anything exotic but you can go that way if you want.

Most, however, agree that 20/50 works well in the V12. And exception is when/if the engine is exposed to freezing ambient temps. I use 10/40 in that situation

Ages ago, in my early Jaguar days, I always used Castrol GTX. That seemed to be the most popular with Jag owners. There's something about 'Castrol' and 'Jaguar' ....they just seem to go together like a hand in a glove. It's one of the many 'feel good' things that I've treated myself to at various times but eventually abandoned.

I've long since been using whatever name brand is on sale that particular day.
