While reading the forum threads it occurred to me to ask the forum population a question that has had me wondering for some time. When I started removing the paint on my 82 coupe to prepare it for painting, I obviously had to remove the plastic side molding. My question is, was this stuff put on in the factory? Or was it installed on American models only (as with the headlight requirement)? And, does this molding HAVE to be put back on if one is restoring an xjs? I've seen some with and some without. What's the deal with this "cheap" add on? Thanks to all who respond! This has been circling around my brain for a loooooong time. Bud

 

Aftermarket add-on, most likely dealer installed....very popular back in the day.
