poor air flow from vents
Hi
I bought a 87 Jaguar XJS 3.6 a couple of days ago, really a fantastic cruising machine.
almost everything works fine, except from the poor air flow from the air vents.
the fan works in every switch position, but it sounds like it blows inside the dashboard, also feel some air coming out right over the passengers feet.
where is the fan located on these cars?
thanks

Two fans, actually...one one each side of the dashboard.
First step is to identify the system you have. Does the *temperature* knob have a "pull for manual control" feature? If so, you have a Delanair MkIII system. If not, you have a Delanair MkII system.
If you have the MkIII...and you probably do....the first step is to clean *all* the tiny electrical connectors and grounds You'll have to remove the underdash trim panels and the "cheek" panels at the front of the console, both sides.
On either side of the heater/evaporator case you see small guage wires with very small connectors. These are the climate control wires. Open them up and clean the contacts on both ends of the connector. There are several such connectors on either side, one up rather high on the left side. This is tedious work. You'll need electrical cleaning aerosol and small instruments/tools.
The grounds are on the vertical sheet metal instrument panel braces....you'll see them.
I have fixed two erratic/misbehaving MkIII system this way...maybe you'll be just as lucky. But, even if you still have a problem, no other tests can be valid of the connections are poor
Good luck
