Default Question: What is this completely obsolete engine sensor? :-)

What is this completely obsolete engine sensor?
My XJS runs just fine without it.
Picture see attached.

Ok. Lets be serious. What is this broken off sensor?
What does it do (or currently not do)?
And where can I get a new one?

Thanks,

Andy, Clueless Rookie

Looks like the fuel rail temp sensor. It is vacuum switch that at temperature increases the fuel pressure slightly in order to reduce fuel vapor problems. It normally connects to L/H pressure regulator via vacuum tube to manifold spigot.
Car will run fine without it but your pressure may be up a little if there is no vacuum feed to regulator.

that's the fuel Rail temp sensor. from what I have looked at it's the same one that was on mine that I removed because it broke. The wire goes into the same line as the fuel enrichment that's on the throttle capstan "white switch" I just remove that long black thingy and connected the wires together.

what I ended up doing was moving it to the one that Baxter describes which connects to the vacuum line and the fuel pressure regulator. I found one off at X JS that was in the junkyard.
