Default Rear Brake Rotor Suggestions

When I took my '94 in for some other work, the mechanic said I need rear brake work. To be honest, haven't pulled the rear wheels to inspect but went ahead and ordered some Akebono pads. I haven't done brake work before (this or any car) and wasn't thinking about doing the rotors too. I've since read online and been told on other forums that I would need to do the rotors too regardless of condition. So, now I'm looking for rotors. Any suggestions?

Already be recommended that I upgrade to vented on the rear. I looked up EBC and they have oem non-vented and vented, slotted, and dimpled sports versions. Any other brands to look at?

Whether you also need to do the rotors depends on how much abuse they've had from your pads. Some aggressive pads will really eat into them. Some will barely wear them out at all. But if they aren't perfectly smooth better to replace them since not doing that will cause the pads to wear much faster. My personal preference is slotted rotos for better cooling and weight reduction. Maybe not as important for rear rotors as front.

im not sure how the inboard rotors are set up, but you could look into having them turned at your local machine shop.

The 1994 has outboard brakes so they are much easier. I would remove the wheels and inspect the rotors and pads. If the rotor are worn check them for thickness. The non-vented were for the inboard disc yours will be vented

I really don't think it matters as all brake rotors are made in Red China these days...
Try to find a brake rotor that fits your wallet.

Sorry the wife wanted lunch so I got pulled away before I finished my post.

Anyway unless you are going to drive the car hard on or off the track slotted and dimpled rotors are probably overkill. Just go with a set of standard rotors.

I have had a good look through the ROM and can not find anywhere what the minimum rotor thickness is for outboard disc model, so if they look worn take them to a shop that machines rotors and they should be able to advise you.

cheers
Warren

what ever vendor/autoparts store that you can get your rotors from should have the minimum thickness listed on the new rotor. i know at Autozone, we have the minimum thickness for EVERY SINGLE ROTOR we carry listed on the box. but im pretty sure we can't get XJS rotors.
