Here is my walkthrough of easily adding a remote to an older '80s xjs. Had to make one myself since lock relay location and operation are almost impossible to find on the web. First, remove the outside kick panel cover on the left and right side. There will be a cubby hole behind it with a group of wires inside. just above cubby are 2 screws. remove them and relay tucked up at top of hole will be able to be withdrawn. take note of the color of wires and the pin numbers they attach to. schematics usually do not match what is there, close but not quite. You will see the pin labeled W2 on the relay That is the + trigger to activate it. The relay in the right side cubby is for unlock functions. the Left is for lock. Get a pack of male and female spade connectors., cut a 4 inch piece of wire for the splice( can be smaller gauge due to short length) Take wire strippers and in center of wire strip about 3/4 inch. do not push insulation all the way off, fold striped area in half and crimp male spade connector on, and then female to one of the loose ends. the remaining end is your wire for remote. You will need 3 of them made up. 4 if you don't want to mess with ground point. insert the taps between wire and relay on W2 for signal on both sides. on right side passenger, place a tap on C2 (center pin) for + power feed for remote. W1 can get a jumper also for ground, the ground point is at buttom lip of cubby if you just want to use eyelet connector. Now take out your remote control box. splice wires or move switches so it will send + pulse to the lock and unlock wires. attach the lock wire to the W2 tap you made on right hand relay. The + power fused wire gets attached to your C2 on same relay and _ ground can get attached to the ground screw or a tap on W!. Now the hard part, fish a wire between the 2 cubby hole on both sides. right side attaches to the unlock wire on remote and left side attaches to the only tap on that relay on W2. Now grab your key fob and click. hear that happy chunk sound ? If not, check the configuration on your remote box. Take the remote box and pack it into the right cubby hole , tape the antenna wire on out side of cubby
running up. put relays back in place and screwed down, replace side covers and you are done!
