Default Removing wiper grille

Well, ever since i bought my '82, the wipers have not worked. The local mechanic looked into it once and turns out, the motor is burned up. I opted not to replace it at that point because I believed that the job of replacing it was something I could do (instead of paying the 110 dollars per hour). I attempted to remove the grille today by removing the two bolts in the front and the two nuts in the back. The only problem is that it seems to be hung up on something. Am I missing something? Do I have to remove the wiper blades and completely disconnect the mechanism from the grille?

Thanks

It's a pain, the wheelbox housings hang up under the cowl, right at the base of the windscreen. Keep majiggling.

With how delicate and fragile some parts on these 30+ year old cars are, I occasionally find myself being too gentle when working on such projects. Thanks to JagtechOhio's advice, I was eventually able to jostle the thing out of its "cavity". A few more minutes of work and presto! For the first time I see the wipers going back and forth, in both speeds. the only problem is that the intermittent feature is, well, intermittent! Also the delay feature cuts out and back in randomly. leave it to dirty relays! At least now I have two speeds which I am perfectly satisfied with. Maybe one day I'll pull the passenger scuttle off and clean the relays (if thats where they really are?) but not today. Overall a complete job

Thanks a billion JagTech!

Good fix, simple cars we got here, mmm.

NO relays on an "82, unless some PO has installed them as per KP's book, it all goes through the switch on the stalk, and they go flaky after 30 odd years.
