Default Roar!

Well, not exactly a roar, much more civilized than that. I opened up the V12 for the first time today as I pulled onto a highway. I've been treating the engine as if it were brand new and needed breaking in and I've put a few hundred miles on it so I figured it was time to open it up.

My 18 year old daughter was with me, and after I pulled onto the road I got going about 10 mph (to avoid wheel spin) then floored it and held it there. It accelerated surprisingly well, in fact, it was lifting the front of the car so much my daughter thought we were going to bring the tires off the road!

The second surprise was when it shifted into second at about 40ish+ mph it broke the wheels loose! I really wasn't expecting that!

Told Ya.

Now I bet the daughter wants one for going to college, mmmmmm.

These are NOT engines to be driven quietly, races were not won light that.

Yup, I did, I just had 2 wires reversed.
I think my timing is still a little off, as I can hear pinging once in awhile even though I'm using 93 oct.

I've also noticed it really likes the colder weather. Presumably because of the air density? We had a 90 degree day on Monday, and she ran nice, but today it's only in the 50's and there is a noticeable difference in power. One more reason I need to get those cold air intakes on!

you should try driving a blown car sometime. the weather wildly effects the delta temperatures. cold days make for a tire smoldering drive, while hot days make for a bogged out mess especially at high RPM

Maybe your comments above only happen to V12's in New Hampshire?
Mine pings as well, only when warmed to proper operating temp.Almost sounds like a diesel! Monday surely saw a difference in performance as well, with it being 90

The only other car I can recall that I've ever had that did this was my old 66' Pontiac Gran Prix. It had a 389 cu engine with 360 horses and it liked the cold weather too.

Jamey, i find your comments about wheel spin and chirping the tires into second gear very interesting. my car runs fairly strong based on feel, i've never driven or ridden in another one so no comparison. that said, i don't get the feeling that it wants to break the tires loose. in all fairness i haven't really flogged it much, i know it's fast, but, not what i'd consider quick. i'm wondering if maybe mine isn't running quite like it should!!?? i will admit that i have a tendency to drive it like it's fragile and maybe i'm not getting the full performance it has to offer. i am still a little gun shy with overheating issues etc. i did perform the silicone squirt so i have a little more peace of mind in that respect. i've only had the car a couple of months and still haven't really gotten into the needed improvements, wiring etc. just curious. Terry

open up your airboxes, and gut your cats. the two cheapest and easiest performance mods you can do.

my supercharged cars have torque management and pull timing between shifts to keep from breaking the tires loose.

I have supercharged Jaguar and it does not break tires loose during shifts, or ever, for the most part.

thats because its an automatic and has some sort of line pressure adjustment or ignition timing between shifts.

There are a few things to take into consideration on my car. Firstly, it's a convertible, which I'm sure has altered the weight ratio considerably. Then there are all the modifications. Welded aluminum gas tank, removal of A/C, airpump, mechanical fan, cats, etc...

If the dash cam I just ordered had sound I'd make a recording and post it!

I bought one (new) for $20, but it doesn't have sound. I started a thread on it in the Off Topic section and posted a link for the seller.
Just can't beat the price!

Speaking of YouTube clips... Which guy on here is the guy going 143mph in the 94? He's gotta be here somewhere.

Don't look at me! I'm not crazy enough to try that in a convertible!
