Default Ski slope trim replacement?

I have been searching for a suitable replacement for the plastic trim that goes around the ski slope in my 85 XJS. It's cracked and missing pieces. The rest of it is fine and is actually in beautiful condition. There HAS to be something that I can buy to replace it without buying a whole new ski slope. Anybody out there found something or direct me to somebody that can repair it. I'm desperate and sick of looking at it.

There is a business in England that deals in only XJS parts, components, etc. The owner is Andy Hardy. His website Just XJS Limited. His email is: Justxjsltd@gmail.com . I have bought several items from him. He is the man to go to for anything dealing with XJS parts when you are searching for hard to find items. Send him an email with a photo of your console, explaining what you are searching for. He will get back to you within 24 hours. Keep in mind there is a 5 hour difference from the East coast.

the plastic trim? Huh? It is wood surrounded by leather. Which trim do you mean? If you mean the earlier 1985 has plastic instead of wood, I am not sure if anyone makes the plastic, but you could certainly replace it with wood

the very early XJS's had a plastic edge trim around the ski slop which was covered in vinyl , between the ski slope and the leather ? trim of the console,

it pushed all round the edge of the ski slope, presumably as a finisher and to stop the metal of the ski slope cutting into the console

The wooden slope came around 1986 with another facelift. Might even be 1987... A simple replacement won't work as the console itself is a different shape...

My 86 has the metal ski slope covered by grained vinyl with the bead trim all around. I'm still searching for the trim, I had seen it for sale in the past but the "where" I saw it escapes me.

Oh thats right, it doesn't go all the way out to the edges, i forgot it was basically set up like the pre-he XJSs with all the weird colored buttons.

Have you tried just finding some similar plastic edge molding?
Maybe some variety could work?
You can recover the vinyl in the center and then go around the edges with something as close to the original as possible. Without it to look at I couldn't possible find the right shape. But they make it in all varieties, that is all it probably is to begin with. Hardest thing would probably be finding some flexible enough or some that you could heat up to let it curve around the front portion

that particular one is actually the kind used on the edges of car doors to avoid dings. Possible you could use it if you found some in the right size

like
 this this
stuff

you can probably check at local auto parts places, but sometimes they sell it in shorter lengths of hard plastic. There are other types as well, for going out sheet metal and other various uses, but if you can find the right size, the kind of doors may be the easiest to use.
If you can find the right size in a nice semi-gloss plastic that isn't too shiny, I doubt anyone will ever notice it was replaced

I think it will work perfectly. I'm going to check around and I'll post the results so others can avoid the frustration I've endured. Thanks again!

The door trim stuff is too thick and deep to make the sharp curves/corners on the ski slope. IMHO

But they make all kinds of it, I have seen it as pictured in that stupid amazon ad, with it wrapped around the corners of hoods and fenders, there are thinner varieties that may work.

Sure you may have to glue it for it to stay properly, but as long as it isn't crinkling or doing anything extreme I don't think it would look bad.

If you have good hands you could also cut it down with a razor blade

door edge trim, black, is what used 20yrs ago, also for my hood vent edge in chrome, works good just be careful on the tight corners ,heating it up makes it easier to work with

This may provide a better look based on its small size, for the cheap cost it's worth a try.

I've got an '88 (manufactured in March '87) that also has the metal ski slope covered in the thin faux woodgrain plastic veneer. Ski slope replacement has long been on my list of things to do, but I'm kind of hesitant - I don't want cupholders because I don't want my passenger to think it's alright to drink in there, and I don't want the stock ashtrays, because there is absolutely no smoking in my car. Ever. Under any circumstance - barring, of course, spontaneous human combustion but let's not get carried away.

That is a damn good lookin' setup, Ronbros. I've also been trying to think of a way to modify the shifter to accommodate a leather boot. My plans are either to custom build one to work with the stock display, or somehow relocate the display, probably to the slope surface as in the picture. I'd have to wire up something new, for sure.

Oh, the humanity... I get to build something... Make it stop...

yeah I put it off too, i always think of something better for the car to spend nearly 300 dollars on. I would probably go with the cupholders. I use the ash tray to hold my phone sometimes, but I have found myself stuff in the car with a cup too many times. Even if it is just to pick it up and take home.
