Default Special Edition ??

When I picked up my XJ-S the old owner said that the hood emblem (which is gone of course) said something like 20th year special edition. Now could that be true or was he blowing smoke?(I was taking the car either way) And if this is true how would I tell and are there any differences in the car?

The XJS was introduced to the world in 1975 so your '86 is too young for any "20th anniversary" emblems. :-)

Not sure if there was a 1995-'96 Anniversary XJS

Cheers

that would be a 1985 car. and since mine is 85 and has no such emblem, i would say "thats a load of Bullocks."

I think there was a 1995 anniversary edition.

There was a "Celebration Model" in 1996 but I am not aware of any 10th anniversary edition.

I wonder if Jag sometimes does the propaganda thing. The first time I ordered a part from the Jag dealer I was informed by the parts guy that I had a "Le Mans Celebration" car. There is no badging to indicate this is true, he was just going by the VIN. The person who sold me the car had said that it had been a demo driven by the dealership owner. My car is 88 1/2 and we all know Jag won Le Mans in 88, but, who knows

Hi
You could try the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT.com?) and they will supply you with a Heritage Certificate which will detail the production record of your car so that may give you an idea if it is a 'Special'. It costs about $50 US I think).
There were many tuning companies that modified the XJS in one way or another and quite a few them fitted their own badges; my Lister had the 3 Scimitars badge from WP Automotive.
