Default Speedometer not correct

My speedometer works but is slow, I can drive in 60mph traffic and my speedo reads 40 and in 35mph traffic it says 20! Are there any ways to adjust this unit??
Thanks,
Dick C.

dickc,

What type of XJS do you have? Also do you have a trip computer?

1989 5.3 XJS with trip odometer, it works as does main odometer. I'm assuming the speedo is electronic controlled as sometimes it doesn't start working until going 15 to 20 mph, other times it goes right up from zero as you accelerate???

Since both are AWOL, I reckon the speedo transducer is full of oil, common as.

Located on the LH side of the transmission extension housing, not the hardest to get at, but not the easiest either. A good sense of humour will help.

Apparently the transducer is different for Trip Computer and NO trip. NO IDEA why, its just a pulse generator.
