Default steering column ujs

How does the clearance on the lower column ujs adjust all the pinch bolts seem to go through bolt size slots. No sliding joints.

None on the lower that I remember.

There is lineal movement available in that lower joint by way of the uni design.

Haynes manual tells to do this but not how.
