Default Stumble at takeoff

1996 XJS 4.0

Haven't been on in a while, the car has been performing flawlessly.

Then yesterday I noticed a bit of a stumble at takeoff from a stop. Engine light came on "misfire at multiple cylinders" & "Manufacture Control". Ran good the rest of the day.

Today was going to the store and pulled out into traffic and it stumbled miserably......Thought I was going to die!!!!!
Managed to get off to the side of the road... The engine died...I started it right back up..No issue, tried to takeoff..same thing... bogged down. Sat for a minute fired it back up and it started right up and was able to give gas with foot on brake and managed to drive okay.

Thought it was the pressure regulator. Put a new one on and took a test ride in the neighborhood......started it up and it ran great till the first stop sign.....Started the same issue... bogged down and it took a couple of tries and I was finally able to drive back home

New pressure regulator
fuel filter has ~ 5-6K miles
Injectors have ~5-6K miles
Plugs have ~ 5-6Kmiles
vehicle has just over 100K (took it on a 4,000 mile trip last summer

Any ideas??

Thanks as always

Is your TPS correctly set, and smoothly changing output? A fuel pressure gauge would be handy.

JigJag,

Thanks for the response.

To be honest TPS (Throttle Potentiometer Sensor?) has not been touched since I have had the car, ~ 4yrs.
I would not know how to set.

What do I need to do?

Thanks

Paul

Had a spare throttle body w/tps. Installed the tps and the car runs great again. What are the correct idle speeds in neutral and drive....I believe they are 750rpm in N and 600 in D. Is this correct?

Jig Jag thanks for the response!!!!! to put me on the right path
