Default Thread "quotes"

Its a good job that our screens don't use paper! Saves a lot of trees with all the wasted space full of "quotes" from posts one post above. This seems to be getting worse on a daily basis............

Sorry malc, but sometimes they're a really good tool to use when someone wants to reply to several points raised by several members but in one post.
It beats the same member creating 5 different posts to reply to 5 individual members points

Sometimes it is better to selectively quote to maintain context. As above.

But quoting entire picture laden posts is not really a great practice.

It depends on the willingness of the member to edit the quoted part
down to the essentials.

Agreed 100% Plums

I've left all of your text intact as it all has something to say and it's totally relative.

I'm thinking we should just consider banning any member moving forward who quotes the entire thread c/w 23 pics attached......thoughts?

Well banning might be a little extreme ... perhaps time in the corner after repeated occurences.
(the last word was "offenses" before I thought better of it).

I think members should be let to know that it is not a "personal attack on a member"
to mention grammar, punctuation, and the old usenet etiquette. Including the
forum equivalent of Godin's Law. Notice that I said member to member. This
is not an additional job for moderators.

If someone posts in an unacceptable manner without knowing the consequences,
how are they to learn or know?

And there are consequences. For example, I skip over any post which is a mass
of unbroken letters, some of which are not even words. If a post also does not
contain enough details, again I skip it silently. But the member will never know.

As for octane, ethanol and oil, those threads ought to proceed without the
thought police stepping in an attempt to shut down the discussion. This is
a discussion forum, not a soapbox for self appointed keepers of the
word according to Jaguar.

Whoops ... my soapbox is crumbling as I speak

In closing, I strongly endorse the prohibition agains "spoon feeding" as found
on mp3car.com
