Trans acting up when cold

Trans acting up when cold
'85 V12 coupe.
I've had the car in winter storage for about 5 months now, but I do start it and let it run for an hour or so once a week.
Today I finally got to take it out. Recently I'd noticed a whine when I would start it that went away after 5 minutes. When I tried to back it out of the garage, I had no reverse. Drive worked. Again after a few minutes the whine went away and I had reverse again.
When I got to take it around the block the whine was still there under load. At warm idle there was no whine.
Is this something that will go away as I drive it a little more? Did something decide to take a crap on me over the winter?
Thanks,
D

Back to basics.
Change the trans fluid. I suggest it is LOW, hence the whine and no reverse initially, and possibly "oldish".
That whine is generally caused by cavitation, as teh pump sucks air with the fluid, NOT good for the internals of the trans.
If you dont want to mess with that dumb trans mount fiasco and dropping of the pan, simply get a loooooong plastic hose, feed it down the dipstick tube, get a decent CC syringe (not the small user type), I have a 350cc that is perfect, and suck the old fluid out. You should be able to suck about 4ltrs out that way.
Refill with fresh and check the level once up to proper temp, about an hours running is deemed proper temp. A little overfull will do no harm. Mine runs about 1ltr over the full mark, and is sweet.
