Default trans dip stick

I replaced my trans with a used 1990 trans out of a 1990 XJ6. I have a 1993 XJS, The dip sticks tube is not the same. The one from the XJ6 is longer than the original one. The dip stick is the same. i filled the trans up to the mark on the dip stick and have a trans leak when the trans warms up. Should the dip stick be a different one?

The dip stick length is critical. The full mark needs to line up with the top of the pan.

Are you using the XJ6 dip stick and tube? or a combination?

Does your original dipstick and tube fit the XJ6 trans, if so I would be using that.

catbug12,

What size engine XJ40 did the box come out of? Was it a 4 litre box or a smaller one?

The sump pan is also different on the saloons. You really need to use the matching tube, stick and sump pan, whether from the XJ40 or from the XJS.

Cheers

Paul
