Over run switch and enrichment switch are two different things. You have only the enrichment switch on your 1982 car. It increases fueling about 10% when the throttle is opened to about 75% or so

This is at idle. Car ran fine the other day.

The 'could be' list is long for that rapidly oscillating idle.

I would begin by cleaning the throttle bodies, setting the throttles to the proper .002" clearance, and synchronizing the linkages.

Make sure the air cleaner housing bolts are tight

Make a very careful examination for air leaks.

Small backfires as the throttle is opened usually suggest a lean running condition. Manually operate the enrichment switch. This will richen the fuel mixture. If the engine responds well to extra fuel then you might want to look for a lean mixture problem

How does the car behave out on the road?

Doug,

On the off chance that it actually idles, revs and runs fine, it is perfect. It's not so much a, it runs fine with an intermittent rough-bad idle-die scenario. It's more like a rough-bad idle-die with the once in a blue moon, runs perfectly fine scenario lol. So 18/19 times it is a rough azz idle die problem with an out of nowhere, omg this thing purs like a cat in heat, type of thing...... Temperature outside has nothing to do with it, nor does moisture in the air. Just randomly will decide to run perfect.......

Here's a question Doug...

The vac hose coming off the distributor runs to the left fender well and only has a little air cleaner on it. Does the other end of that just have nothing on it, or does it actually plug into something?

Other end should be connected to small elbow fitting in hose running from L/H air cleaner back plate to AAV.

This is a heater flap control sensor, not engine TPS.

XJSV12,

Right on, It looks like the replacements/upgrade for the older TPS. Even the part number. So this person is trying to say it's one thing, that it's not. Thanks.

This sensor is not properly sealed for engine compartment
