Default V12 Non-cat downpipes !

Lookie what I found !

These non-cat downpipes are NLA from Jaguar and doubly hard to find in the USA. But I scored a pair, never used, OEM with Jaguar labels still affixed. A bit scruffy from age and storage but they'll clean up OK.

I'm chuffed .

Cheers

Doug, I hope you didn't pay a fortune, as Simply Performance offers them in better quality out of stainless steel for like £150/piece IIRC.

My old factory ones were so bad, they fell apart upon removal... Factory non-cat downpipes... Dreadful. The pipe into the exhaust manifold isn't even welded to the pipes. It is just a press fit and with time loosens itself...

Gee, thanks for sharing my joy

Paid £134 for the pair, including 4 new donuts/olives.

Cheers

great find Doug,, i was looking to find some but no such luck!

so i made some up close to what you have , but much longer, for custom side pipes, my diameter is 2 1/2" OD, to fit full flow mufflers, and final outlet 5" OD.

yes probably overkill but didnt want any backpressure! hard to see but left side runs under convertor area, ALL 12 cylinders out the right side!

Hey if it dont go fast , make it sound like it does!! i get a lot of remarks about the sound.

Can't complain at that... The 150 I mentioned was per side, so you didn't get anything bad. Sorry if I sounded negative... Didn't mean to. It is late here, you know

I have put them on a 1992 Series III when my cats plugged up and honestly I couldn't feel any difference in performance or fuel economy. The only difference I could notice was the smell of the exhaust. If your old cats are still serviceable, I would keep them.

My primary motivation is to gain back some ground clearance. The converters drop a couple inches below the belly of the car ....and my car rides lower in the front than most. Lots of crunching !

Gah! I looked at SNG many times and never saw them. Maybe because I was seaching under Jaguar part numbers?

Oh well, I couldn't have afforded them at that price anyway.

Have the front springs sagged? Or is it intentional?

Intentional. I used XJS springs and left all the spacers out....hoping I would get a slightly lowered stance. Came out just right....except for ground clearance

Should there be a bung for the O2 sensor?

The non-catalyst cars didn't use O2 sensors so no bung is provided...but can be easily added.

Or a person could go ditch the sensors and go to a non-catalyst ECU

Would the O2 sensors work OK without the catalytic converters? Can't remember if they're positioned before or after the cats. Considering the system from Simply Performance as I've got a handful of pinholes throughout the system.

Yep, they'd work. They're ahead of the converters. The O2 sensors have no idea if the converters are there...or not.

Works just fine. X300's are the oddball cars where the O2 sensor after the converter is the main sensor and the upstream sensor is the check. I have no idea how they make that work, but it does.

Hey Ron, I see you love to post pics of the jag, do you have any videos of it? I'd like to hear what the exhaust sounds like

Ron,

Ive been meaning to ask you about clearance and routing of your pipes. Got any pics underneath? I’m considering a pair of sidepipes and have been trying to reason out the routing.

It seems unavoidable ( and desirable ) to have them exit right past the wheel well, but that’s also a nice spot to scrape or crush when the tire drops off any lip, pothole, or speed bump. Do you have any issues or do you just drive around such things?

Im considering perfing through the very bottom of the rear of the fender and keeping the pipes bottom edge just below the level of the cars lower edge. Lots of room by the lower sill to fit 3” plus their covers. Doors would just clear the top of the covers. But more work and money that way. Do you have any ground clearance issues?

HI fat cat,, i dont have any videos of it , but a vid would not do justice to the sound, good engine exhaust sound can only be appreciated with the human ear, good systems you can actually feel the sound!!

it can send a shiver up your back, hair stands up!,, and 60* V12 have been known to produce a paticulerly great sound!
