Default Which way?

Got a little ahead of myself when repacking the bearings. I removed the grease seal on the right front pinion without noting in which direction the seal fits. Does the "flange" of the seal face to the outboard of the pinion (picture 1), or to the inboard (picture 2)?
Feeling kind of dumb about this, but go ahead and fire away with the comments anyway!!
Thanks,
Bill

Thanks warrjon. If I were to say "That's what I thought", would you believe it?
Now, back to it.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. New bearings seals and stub axles.
