what is this?
Hi folks,
I need some help in identifying some parts in my 1988 xjs convertible V12.
Does anybody know what this is? (first 2 pictures)
It is located on the panel under steering wheel. Is it a jaguar part or aftermarket and what is the function of it? the cap turns, inside it is a variable resistor.
My second question is about this lucas thingy it is located in the tunnel under the back of the skislope. It has a black 3 pin connector and two single pin connectors with green wires.
any help wil be much appreciated.
Thanks
Bo

Here goes.
The first thingy is the dash light rheostat, usually fitted to the knee bolster (hole in same bolster for it to poke thru), and dims/brightens the instrument lights.
The second, ah memory will not work, but being a Conv, and USA market, I am thinking the "bulb failure thingy", or, something to do with the roof up and down, but then the THIN Green wires say NO to the roof, and head me back to the bulb failure.
Time for a drink after all that brain power, haha.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks all,
@Grant Francis thanks, I was in doubt whether is was a part of the alarm system, which I'm discarding now or a OEM part. Wiring harness is a mess. Now I'm removing all redundant wiring.
@YycXJS thanks that is the thingy I'm talking about.
@Malc4d Thanks for taking your time, I'll go with YycXJS

I know this one!
The grey Lucas labelled "sardine can" with mounting wings is the Stop Lamp Failure Sensor, basically tells you (via dash warning icon) if your brake lights are out. If it goes bad, your brake lights won't work as it passes power to them. Ask me how I know...
