What is this??

i found a pump looking thing in the trunk of my 1995 xjs 4.0. It has a little switch on it labeled “manual” and has liquid in it but idk what it is. Is it the fuel pump?

I quite like puzzles and mysteries so l'll play.
If your car is a convertible it might be something to do with that.
As already mentioned a pic would help.
