Just got hose kit HK030 for my car, now I need to figure out what aerobics I need to do to replace the hoses... some of them are hiding in the engine compartment...

Removed a few brackets andthe prop shaft today... I dunno but since whe dpes Jaguar fill the props with oil? :D Undid it at the differential and it peed out some oil. Seems like the diff is leaking around the input shaft. Lucky me, I have all thee seals laying here :D

Tomorrow is engine on subframe removal day! And it will work... I promiss it! :)

Very likely the diff oil wicked out by way of the pinion splines and was then trapped between the flanges. That will bypass the seal, I like to use some sealant in that area when reassembling.

Removed the engine, transmission and front subframe assembly.

So, I finished my oil/tranny fluid change.

Getting the transmission sump pan off was a bit of an adventure involving propane torches and candles. Putting it back on was going swimmingly until I broke off the drain plug with an uncalibrated torque wrench. Just the head broke, so the bolt stayed in - for the best, since I just "gooped" it to prevent leaks until I get the replacement drain plug. Totally ghetto, I know.

In case you need a drain plug for your 4.0 XJS with the ZF 4HP-24 (ZF4HP24) transmission, it's part number JLM655 and the washer is JLM649. Should work on the ZF4HP22 as well: Oil Sump Pan-4.0 Litre - Parts For XJS from (V)179737 to (V)226645 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Oh by the way, you want the tranny oil filter without the 1" pickup tube (which is for the deeper pan XJ6). Beck Arnley has a nice kit on Amazon that works on the shallow pan XJS: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CAZ5KS/ .

So I put Mobil One 5W-30 High Mileage oil in the motor and Valvoline Max Life ATF in the tranny. Motor/tranny has 137k miles on it, so I figure that's best.

Funny thing, took it on a 60-mile trip to shake it down, and I noticed the average gas mileage jumped from 20 to 24 (I've logged this route before). And this was with the AC on. Sure, there might be other contributing factors, but the difference was noticeable.

Now I'm on "leak watch" to make sure I fastened everything down well.

The most difficult thing is clean up it all.
My hands have a manicure does not help.
This engine is of my friend. Together it did.

I've been cleaning this engine the last few days... I've removed loads of oil and goo from the block and heads and there is plenty more to do... I doubt that the engine itself had any cleaning during it's entire 27 year life... But one thing is for sure: oil leaks means frequent refilling of oil and therefore a cleaner general oil :D Haha...

Just rescued a 1983 XJS from a barn. Hasn't been started in 20 years. All gummed up.
I'll make this short: I undid all the stuff the PO did to get it going. New fuel pump (95 PSI), correct relays, etc... Car starts with starting fluid then dies. After installed new pump car will now start on it's own but dies after 5-10 seconds at idle. I have left the car all day the ignition on to pressurize the fuel rails. I think the cleaner I mixed with the gas is starting to un-gum things. Tried to bypass RH fuel pressure regulator by applying vacuum to diaphragm. Apparently this closes it as I got nothing. Please advise if anyone has woken up a V12 after 20 years and what they did to the fuel system.

Got her some fresh air today; took her out of the garage and drove her into town.
Totally forgot how big these things are in a multi storey car park (forward, back, forward, back).
Stupidly trusted the sat nav on the way back so had some lovely views over the Downs from somebodies driveway.
Heard on the telebox when we got home that 44% of the county that we live in is designated as Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
What they didn't mention was that 90% of it is Areas Of Outstandingly Frigging Narrowness.

Your car, your choice, nobody else has a dog in the hunt. But my opinion - which is worth nothing as beauty is in the eye of the owner - is that such bodykits ruin the unimpeachable, elegant, head-turning, classic elegance and beauty of the XJS. Your car looks superb without it.

I love the body kit and I'm jealous

Today I dove under the ski slope to dig out a couple fuses related to the radio, and found that they're both in good shape. Then I checked the 10 amp fuse on the radio itself. Also good.

Still can't figure out why my dang radio doesn't have constant power. Might have to pull the trigger on another AJ8700.
