I have a set of 17 X 9 Dayton wire wheels. that came on a car I bought for the driveline. I can get you photos if you send me a cell number to sjniznik@msn.com. They are in pretty nice condition, Not perfect but nice. I'll sell them for a reasonable price so that I can clear some space and someone can get use out of them.
Oh good I havent participated in one of these in while.
I have a leaper in my XJS. It was sold like that brand new to my grandfather and presented as a factory option, but it was just a dealer add-on… It’s the only “non-factory” item in my car. I do think leapers look aesthetically pleasing in the XK150 and the XJS because their shape lends to it.
The E types, XK8, and F types don’t wear it well. I have made the case for leapers in the XJS because of the obscure but factual case of Coventry giving the show producers of “The Return of the Saint” a XJS fitted with a leaper high up on the bonnet.
Wire-wheels are the least egregious of the aftermarket wheels IMO. No other AM wheels work because they look too modern. Wheels are the most visible and most definitive of any AM modification. Everything else can blend in ….
I think people get in trouble when they start doing multiple things: leaper + aftermarket wheels +chrome door guards +chrome wheel well/fender trim +aftermarket fog lights. One thing can be imperceptible, but the combo of multiple items is where the aesthetic starts suffering greatly
I've always thought the 2005 GTO rims would look great but they don't fit. My photochop.
To each their own. I personally like the wires, leaper and spoiler on my 1996. I also have a ski slope with cup holders. I drive this car every week and sometimes show it in Driven Class even though it loses points for the changes.

Most people wouldn’t know this car is not stock. Like I said earlier, you can typically get away with one of two things. If you where to add non-OEM fogs or fender wheel chrome, chrome door protectors or chrome door guards, you cross into an entirely different place
I have ceramic tinted windows including windshield and it makes the 100+ plus heat a breeze with my mediocre AC on. Plus I have factory pinstriping, go ahead and get wire wheels and learn from the mistake or the improved look. Its your car. Just make sure to keep the original wheels.
I don't have anything against wire wheels, but I have never liked them on the XJS...any XJS.
But on some of those American mid 50's super restorations with shiny chrome wires, oh man they look phenomenal.
Anyone have information on best place to buy used quality wire rims?
