Hi Palmert

Others will no doubt know the exact process, but it wont need a cutting torch, that's for sure !. You may, however, have to drill a hole in the boot lid behind the number plate. This gives access to the lock mechanism.

There may be other, non-intrusive methods, but that is the one I heard about.

When no other means (tricks with key, electrical wiring, ... ) can help you, here is a way to break in your car trunk with brute force:
you can open the boot with long nose pliers quite easily. a hole of 1'' in diameter is required located directly under the boot lock at about 4.5'' from bottom edge of the trunk bootlid.
a blank grommet seals the hole and is then covered by the numberplate.

hope you need this procedure as backup plan only.

I was locked out of my trunk caused by a bad lock assembly motor and a bad lock barrel.

One uni-bit and 10 minutes and the trunk was open.

Close-up. You can see the hole in the latch piece. Insert a cross-tip screw driver and push down.

Photo 3
Lock assembly with the lock barrel removed. This is the little motor that moves the plastic piece to the left or to the right when you lock/unlock the car with the alarm. The motor is bad and I have to source a replacement.

Photo 5
Close-up of latch assembly. When drilling the hole ensure you do not drill through the micro-switch. This is the trunk light microswitch. In addition to the trunk light, the alarm system keys off of this switch. As you can see in the photo, I nearly ruined mine!

Thank you. you just saved my bacon. Remove the tag bore hole and SUCESS. The rod had come loose. Got a rubber plug to fill the hole and put the tag back on.

On my 94, I took a long skinny screwdriver and went in thru the license plate hole and pushed the lever. No drilling required.
