There always seem to be questions about exhausts, and tastes are all over the place. Some like it subdued yet noticeable, others like it loud and aggressive. I'm going to contribute by posting my own experiences, in the form of videos, in the hopes of helping people decide what they want to do - or not do.
I purchased my XK this past April, with 24k miles, with the stock exhaust and it was in good nick. I wanted more sound so I removed the resonator just in front of the main rear muffler. It did give a more aggressive sound, but it was very raspy. Here are a couple of videos - first outside the car, then inside, going down the road.
Video - stock, minus resonator - outside
Video - stock, minus resonator - inside full throttle
I wasn't pleased with the raspiness of my setup, so I started researching what was out there. I liked the appearance of the Mina Gallery exhaust and the sound seemed to be what I was looking for, based upon the few online videos I could find.
After speaking with Chris at Mina Gallery, I purchased their quad-tipped, high-quality, polished stainless exhaust system. Upon arrival, I inspected all parts and was impressed with the fabrication. According to Chris, Mina Gallery worked with a local exhaust manufacturer to design a high-quality exhaust system that brings out more of the "european sound" of the Jag. They were successful, IMO. Here are comparison videos. Note that the raspiness is gone and the tone is much deeper. The exhaust is loud when you want it to be, and subtle when you're easy on the gas. The quad tips are rolled and the best quality I have ever seen.

I did a Ron of playing around with my 99XK8 with semi- successful results. I am less inclined to dabble with a vehicle as nice as the XK. However, you videos are turning me. My big issue on the 99 was drone. My co-pilot bought into a newer XK on my promise that we would not have another "sounds great around town but drones you to death on the freeway". Does the Mina setup keep the drone at stock levels?

If you're cruising on the highway, and tip-in the throttle slightly, you will hear it get louder. Maybe that's what some people consider "drone." But just going down the road it sounds fine to me. But you should know that I prefer an aggressive sound from my car.Originally Posted by DaveC

Other than the stock exhaust, has anyone ever described an aftermarket exhaust as drone free?

Regarding drone - my co-pilot and I recently finished an 1800+ mile road trip where we averaged 61 mph for the whole trip. Very little radio or music usage and she never complained once about drone in my 12xk (5.0 NA) vert with the Mina exhaust and ETG tune.
