Default 2007 XK Tire Question

I've looked. I really did...I have tried. I will take the flak if I missed the obvious but I could find no threads regarding choices for tires.

I'm picking up an 07. It will need tires. I'm looking at the Conti's Extreme Contact DW but then I noticed Conti makes an Extreme Contact DWS...an "all season' tire.

Any foreseen issue with those vs a "summer/performance " tire??

I like Conti's...seem to me a good brand to have on a Jaguar. I have had several on my XJ's over the years.

I am driving this primarily highway between cities...average 1.5-2 hour one way...and my wife will be driving the car a lot....in town...No gymkhanas....some spirited exit ramp turns but no real hard driving..

We live in Upstate NY...spring to fall driving....Probably equivalent to Northern England in the shoulder seasons...so wet weather capability is a factor.

Any other suggestions for tires??

As always, thanks in advance.

Yes, the search really sucks in here, I just did one for Tires and nothing came up.
So... buy ANY tires that are NOT Michelins, as they fly apart into pieces and will probably kill you. I had some Pilot Super Sports and they were complete garbage even BEFORE they started flying apart.
I made a switch to Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 tires and they have been GREAT. Some people say they are noisy, but I have a convertible and don't notice them at all. Plus, they stick like all get-out.

The Conti Extreme Contact DWS is what I plan to put on the 20" Senta's I picked up recently on eBay, to replace my 19" Carellia's. But I've still got a lot of miles left on those Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS tires that came on the car, before I can justify the change over (at which point I'll put some Blizzak's on the 19" wheels, just for emergency winter use).

I swapped the Dunlops for Conti Extreme Contact DSW 06s and I love them. I also swapped my OEM Sentra wheels for Coventry Whitleys and am thrilled with them!

Thanks Cee Jay. Glad it wasn't just me.kj: My incoming coupe is the same color combo!! 19' Carellias as well.I love listening to the audio wikipedia pronounciation of CARELLIA....

Really took some doing to go from my 97 to this....and frankly I've always liked the look of the X100 better....but it has obviously grown on me....plus I could not find a later (2004-2006) coupe.

I'm glad the Conti's make sense...I was afraid they may be too "soft' for the attributes of the car.

pix etc when i pick her up tomorrow!!!!!

EDIT: SNIDE: Why did you go with the DSW 06 vs the DSW???

The DSW 06 is six years newer (in design) than the DSW.
In my posting, I just assumed the DSW would no longer be available when I get around to making the purchase, plus newer is 'always better', right?

I would opt for two sets of tires; summer and winter instead of all seasons. That being said, I had the Pilot Sport AS+ tires on the XK and they were decent at everything, but not exceptional at anything.

Tires can make the world out of a car, and I don't feel all seasons is really doing the car justice.

As you can see from these pics I have replaced my Dunlops with another set and love them. I live in a country with one of the worst road systems ever and mixed weather conditions. Have never any faults with the road handling in dry or wet conditions. Wouldn't consider anything else.

I have tried Hankooks which were okay but much prefer the Conti DWS. Funny, I have missed the Dunlops they originally came with because it seems like the car handled a tad bit better and delivered better mileage with the Dunlops or is it my imagination?

I have the Conti DWS on my 07 XK. Very smooth ride and does well in rain etc.

I have the Conti's DWS on my SRT 300. I used them year around in metro detroit which has some bad winters. Not great, but sufficient to get through.

I intend to sell it and drive the jag year around so am thinking I will put them on it as well.

Saw a new merc sls and it was fitted with the new Dunlop sport RT tyre, and a lot of sports cars seem to come Dunlop fitted now , Seems there's making a big come back i think.

Moses...what you said about the tires making the car is what led me to ask the question...you're right. As far as winter...we don't drive cars like this in the winter up here.

Powerhouse: Those are gorgeous wheels.... but those tires make me squirm thinking of going over bad roads...in spite of what you said about the roads in Ireland....

KJ: Correct, they are the new version....Makes sense to spend a few more sheckles I guess to get them!

Just turned 7500 miles on my rear Conti DWS and for those who know the tire you can see the DWS imprint on the center treads. Smooth , quiet , comfortable and a good handling tire for my style of driving. Great grand touring tire in my opinion. . Tread wear is minimal at this point where my OEM Dunlops only made it to around 10K miles.

Maybe it is user error I get 500 results when I use the X150 forum search for Tires.

If you struggle with it you can always use google. The link below won't work if you click on it but if you cut and paste the text in to google the search will be limited to this site and forum:

site:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33 tires

That brings back 2,430 results.

I own a 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition and a 2015 Corvette C7.

I recently removed the Michelin Pilot tires off the Corvette C7 and replaced them with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 in a 19" and 20" tire size.

The grip is great, the ride is smooth and much quieter than the Michelins.

I would highly recommend the Conti's. I purchased a complete set from Discount Tire a national chain for under $850. I found them on sale, and mounting at DT was only $16.00 each for the removal and remount of the new tires.

There is some great information about these tires at TireRack.com.

On my Jaguar XKR, I replaced the Dunlops with the Hankook Ventus Evo V12 A/S. They have performed great and are a very good value for what you get.

Here's an image of the Michelin vs the Continental DWS Extreme Contact tire. Great thread pattern as you can see.

Click the image to enlarge, click again for full screen.

I like the rotors here but something looks different. I went out into my garage and looked at my wheels and rotors. The difference is the size of the rotor in proportion to the wheel. I also have 20's and my rotors look much larger then the ones in the OP. I don't know if it is because of the difference in size of the rotors or the opening of the wheels. As to the wheels they are nice but not my style but I always say all you need to make happy is yourself.

I think the 5.0 cars have larger rear brakes than the 4.2s (other than the Alcon's of course).
