Question 2013 XE...Is the Current XK a Dinosaur?

Please be objective when responding to this thread...I know that may not be so easy for current XK owners and understandably so but please try.

The more I've been reading about the new 2013 XE the more I am regreting ordering a 12 XKR. I've always felt the XK's a big car (and it is) and the interior is so so especially for the price; although I love the love the exterior. It appears the XE's might just have it all and for about 30-40 percent less money. I also understand the current V8's both NA and FI will make it into the XE's with the XK's becoming an even larger car and going more upmarket. The pics of the XE are quite nice leaving me wondering if I am making a mistake...I am beginning to think so.

Thanks

Short answer is no way. The XE is what the slk is to the sl or the boxster to the 911

I think the XE looks fantastic though and would be a great option in the jag lineup but is not nearly as sexy as the xkr IMHO.

Going downstream in pricing is always a good idea to increase sales.

I would in NO way regret ordring a 12 XKR, I think the XE will have it's place, but an XKR it is not!

Rest assured , I am not an XK Owner that's why I am unbiased and you don't need to lose a sleep just because they will release 2013 model XKE , as our friends stated neatly it's like SL vs SLK .

I haven't seen any real pics of the XE yet (loads of different photoshop guesses) so can't judge it yet but they do seem to suggest a smaller, cheaper car that allows the XK to go further up the range.

Maybe now is the time to buy an XK, before a huge price rise?

I don't know about a full comp of an SL/SLK or 911/Boxster as the XE will have the same powertrain as the current XK and XKR and from what ive seen from the pics and what the Jag rep told me is quite stunning. Ive always thought the XK is too big for a 2 seater especially since I'm coming from a long history of 911's.

Where are you getting your information? I heard the smaller car was getting a n/a V6 (regular model), probably a s/c V6 (an R or Supercharged designation) and "maybe" the V8 (an upcoming R-S). Other markets will probably get diesel variants, too. I've heard nothing that say they'll get the same engines as the XF and XK, but who knows?

True, no one here knows for sure but I've read the engines will be the same. The 2014 XK/r gets even more power and the car grows in size going even more upscale (the last two parts are directly from the Jaguar rep). Even if the XE gets a NA 6 and FI R version, it could be close in performance to the current XK/R as the XE's will be much lighter. The rep said he saw a coupe version of the XE and in his words was stunning.

Have you seen anything other than the black roadster photos in car magazines that look like a shortened XK, suspiciously too much like an XK (XK Jr.)? A red herring? One would think that 7 years into the XK's profile the XE might differ.

The 2014 XK/R will be significantly more expensive according to the regional rep from jaguar USA. If you google the 2013 XE there are many current renderings and if they are close, the car will be quite nice looking much nicer than the 12 XK. Even if the car comes with the touted v6's as in the link below, 450 hp in a car weighing hundreds of pounds less will be perfect. Don't know what to do.

What's "significantly more expensive?"

Are we talking Aston Martin DB9 expensive? Because I love my Jag, but given the choice between paying $150K for a car, and the two choices are Aston and Jag, the Jag's gonna lose...

@rscultho-How can you make that statement about a car that hasn't even been designed yet?

I did not ask him to give a number, he just said the 14 XK's will be larger being a true 2+2, move further upmarket and be significantly more expensive. He also commented that he saw the new XE coupe in semi finished form and "it was stunning".

Well, for me (and I understand that this is a highly personal thing) the most beautiful car *to me* in the world is an Aston Martin DB9. There are several other Aston's I think are stunning as well. I am not into Ferarri's, Lambo's and such.

I just don't think Jaguar is in the same class as Aston Martin. Now, if they design the '14 XKR to be *equal* to or *better* than a DB9, and hand-build it maybe my opinion might change.

I suspect the XKR may be over $100K new. Currently they are around $88K to $95K average (new). If they go to $110K or even $120K new, that's ok, provided the styling and the design follow suit. I don't see that price range as a bad thing.

But if we're talking $150K or more? Different story altogether...
