Question 2013 XKR rear brake pad replacement

I've read all I could find on replacing the rear pads, but find conflicting information. Options concerning the e-brake appear to be, do nothing, disconnect battery beforehand, or use SDD to put e-brake in service mode. I don't trust the do nothing option having had issues with an 04 XJR. I have the JLR SDD software, but have only used it a couple times and am a bit afraid to try using it on the new car, but will if I have to. I'd really like the simple battery disconnect solution, so, will disconnecting the battery before changing the pads definitively prevent any issues with the e-brake?
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
