5.0 XKR - Slow 2nd to 3rd Shift in Manual Mode?
Hi guys,
Was out for a drive yesterday and when pressing on (in S + Manual + Dynamic mode) my shifts from 2nd to 3rd seemed to be a bit rougher/slower than shifts from 3rd to 4th etc.
I wasn't hitting the limiter, but I was high up in the revs and shifting without lifting the throttle. A little transmission thump is to be expected shifting like this, but yesterday it seemed a bit more hesitant that usual. And it was only 2nd to 3rd (although I'm not sure about 1st to second as this wasn't really used).
Does anyone else experience this?
Cheers

I believe that I had experienced what you describe here. Hesitation in low gear upshifts when you use the paddles. Here is what I figured was happening;
I was waiting for the tachometer to show me getting very close to the red line when I activated the upshift. I think that the revs in lower gears rise so fast that I reached the rev-limiter even though the tach still showed "room for the shift". Reaching the rev limiter had introduced the delay in shifting as the CPU cut power to the engine, as it should upon reaching the rev limits.
When I am fully on the throttle in, say, 2nd gear I now press the upshift paddle when I see the revs flashing-by about 6200-6300 RPMs. There is no hesitation at that point, suggesting that I WAS hitting the rev limiter when I was holding off to near the 6500 redline with my shift.

Also, unless you've had a custom tune, power & torque tend to fade a bit when you get close to the rev limit, so you're better off shifting before you get there. When I was doing my autobahn runs, I found it look me longer to hit 300k if I put the 'box in Sport mode, because it was holding on to 5th gear too long and acceleration was starting to drop off as it crept towards 6250 rpm. In Drive, it changed up earlier and the power kept coming. Kinda counter-intuitive until I figured it out.

Thanks guys.
Axr6; good point, it could be this. I do try and change up a good bit before the redline as when I first got the car I was running in to the limiter quite a lot. I try and change up when the gear display changes yellow, but in all fairness when I was out on sunday it was on some nice twisty roads so I wasn't giving the shift point may undevoted attention like is possible on a motorway, so I may have just been going that little bit too far.
I'll give it a run tonight and see how it fairs.
