5W/30 in a 5.0L ?????
When choosing a synthetic oil to run in the winter months, the viscosity is relatively unimportant, because the oil doesn't thicken much in "very cold" weather. What worries me more are the manufacturers choosing a thinner viscosity, to achieve a better MPG. So I tend to run thicker oil, and the hell with MPG.
start lubrication’s critical. In colder climes and real winters, 0 is best suited. In warmer climes, 5 is best suited.
I was thinking that it goes without being said, that the tolerances in the engines of today are tighter. That's why we are down to 0W, 5W, and have left 10W30 and SAE 30. With global warming we are not getting the -40F or -40C nights anymore. And so, 0W is less required.
