It's good for traveling up I-5 from LA to SF. It's a long *** drive and you have all sorts of underpowered vehicles on that road. So if you get hung up behind a bunch of slugs going up a grade, their car slows down 'cause their hp is so minimal, then as their cruise reacts on their car, and finally goes back to the speed they had it set on. So. If your behind these slugs, and there's no way past on the right or left, then if you have adaptive cruise control, you can just sit here and not have to reduce speed to match them or increase speed to match theirs. You just sit there and let the adaptive cruise control do the up/down with your cars speed.
Works ok on loop 820 around the Ft Worth area also.........until Dudley Dumb Head on your right decides to cut across the front of your car, and does so, and THEN slows down way below the speed you WERE going. What happens is the adaptive cruise puts the brakes on YOUR car also. I don't like anybody but me to put my brakes on.
I've a love/hate relationship with adaptive cruise control. That said, I'm planning to buy another Mercedes and one of the things I insist on having is ' Distronic" speed control. Same thing by another name. I must hate myself???
Yes, it either totally works or totally does not work. Do YOU want to be 1700 miles away from home and have it drop out and have to drive with your right foot all that way back? Gets tiresome after a few hours. That has happened to me. Turning the car off and back on recovered the adaptive cruise control.

Been discussed many times.... It is a love or hate feature...
Personally I love it and would not buy another Jag without it.... Keep in mind driving for me is a passion. I take road trips at the drop of a hat and rack up miles and miles with smiles....
I wont debate the wish for a "toggle" between the standard and adaptive, but if I were forced to pick one or the other, I'll pick adaptive every time...

More about Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC):
- Here's an engineering overview of XK150 ACC implementation: https://www.mathworks.com/content/da...esentation.pdf
- I didn't know my XJR had ACC when I bought it 5 years ago. Having since crisscrossed the USA six times, I now wouldn't have a car without it
- The '07 version is a bit crude (eg, it doesn't like bridges), but overall works a treat
- Really heavy rain will confuse ACC and cause it to fault (but it will reset itself in about 5 minutes of continued driving)
- Dirt and bugs on the radar module (next to LH fog lamp in XJR) will cause faults requiring engine restart to reset. I eventually figured this out (in the middle of Montana), and keep a pair of hemostats and paper towels in the trunk to ease cleaning
- Looking at V8 E550 Mercedes sedans recently (last one made 2014), "Distronic Plus" is surprisingly hard to find. Funny, in that it is now available even in the cheapest Kia's, etc
- Newer ACC equipped cars can handle stop/go traffic jams, which would be nice...
