Yes, I want to say the motor and position pot are internal to the motor so the puter won't know the lamps isn't aimed correctly if the rod fell apart.

To the OP, heat the edge where the lens clips to the housing and work the rubbery sealant out from between them. There's a ton of stuff on Youtube about how to do it. Mine had a wire break inside.

Lots of people put the headlight assembly in an oven @ 225f for 10-20 minutes.

15 minutes at 220°F is recommended by most headlight modders. Slow cooking doesn't always treat the clear plastic very nicely.

Make sure to pre heat the oven. Many ovens use broiler to speed up the warm up,which can damage the lights.

Once inside you can aim the lights where you need them.

Been today at the Jaguar dealership/service for the AFS warning light.

They called me and said that it is the AFS control module (smwhr near the RH side footwell). What puzzles me is that I swapped the 2 headlights and the problem follows the Left headlamp....

I told them to proceed with the order of the control module and see what happens...

I would tell them if it doesn't fix the problem you won't pay for the part.

Ditto. I often wonder how competent these dealer techs and service writers really are. Seems they don't mind shotgunning parts at the owners expense.

I already told them that, and to my surprise, they agreed. It will take 3 weeks for the module to arrive though...

DrG,

Old thread here, but did the control module end up fixing the problem?

Thanks,

Peter

DrG, could you please also inform us what approx. mileage the headlight had done when you had the issue?

And, more importantly, was it a permanent problem, or did the left headlight point down & AFS warning light only every now and then?

In my case I only get the problem intermittently, so it would actually be very difficult to swap lights side2side for a test, as one cannot drive around with swapped headlights while waiting for the AFS warning light to appear.

Thanks!
ter

Mileage was about 60+k kms. It was permanent and the headlight had to be replaced.
