Same. :-)

My neighbor can hear me start it in the garage and quickly makes his way outside to ‘water something’ and chat with me about it.
His wife only lets him drive his ole reliable Acura.
Poor guy.

Well..... My Xk is certainly not in the category of an XJS... Yes I do love driving it, admiring, and getting all kinds of thumbs up driving it!... Recently, nothing major other than boots and possible suspension noises, creaking.... I'm not jumping into the Lexus dealership and signing papers, but I do like the newer technology and the overall feel of one of the few "real wheel drive" naturally aspirated engines, which is going to be a thing of the past... I wish my XK would do something drastic like "break down" or "not start".... it doesn't.. It's just a great driving, great looking car which the reliable Lexus does not have... It's a trade off... If my car doesn't fail extremely shortly, I'll Probably be sticking with the sexy Jag....at least temporarily.... To be continued.

At the very least... my Jaguar XK makes me look like a "real gentleman" it is and will probably be a very dersireable looking car.... I guess I can't say that about any Lexus.... Except "it starts every time".. lol

Was next to a guy at a long light in an LC couple weeks ago.
Asked him how he likes it.
”Sounds great and looks cool, but I’m on my way to the dealership for the 3rd time already.”
This time was for a rear differential problem.
Would be $14k if it weren’t under warranty.

Anecdotal, but….

Bottom line is.... Most love the looks and replaciing it for anything reliable or anything else loses the exotic undeniable exotics of the XK... It's the closest we get to the Aston Martin and that too has many issues....Let's enjoy it while we still can. Period!

I'd have to say you were lucky. Story....My very first brand new car I ever bought (1970) was a 70 MGB. I was in my early 20s. Car threw a rod at 3,000 miles, I drove like a snail and those engines were quite robust. Waited 3 months for a new engine block from England. It caught fire (electrical) shortly after. They found an alligator clip across the wiring harness. I replaced the regulator 3 times (internal regulator in Alternator) and 2-3 resonators were replaced. I sold the car after 9 months. I was not a happy camper. YES I WOULD SAY YOU WERE LUCKY. PS....British Leyland was going through terrible labor disputes at the time I purchased my car and my car might have been sabotaged due to labor issues... I'll never know..

Yes..sounds horrible..

Accidently omitted my 1st British car. A 1970 MG Midget my girlfriend (now my wife) saw on the back lot of the MG dealership in Columbus Ohio. It was 1977 had 45,000 miles and multi colored panels. Bought it for $350.. Fixed all electrical issues in a day, Maaco paint job and drove it as my daily driver in college , issue free!! Sold it in 1983 for $1,500 and bought my 1st Bugeye sprite....

Car gods must be smiling on me.....

Hope it continues...

Bocatrip, I get the sense that you do all your own maintenance, and the thought of crawling underneath your XK to do the stabilizer end-links/tie-rod ends/control arm bushings, etc. at your current age/in your current space is what's making you think of downgrading (c'mon, we all know that's what it is).

Do you have an indy shop nearby that you trust? If you can get them to do the work, you'll get to keep your beloved XK for a fraction of the price of a new Lexus.

Just a thought.

For the record, @bocatrip , if this is the reason I got a buddy in Boca who has been bugging me to come visit all year.
I can be the muscle as long as you know what I’m supposed to do (and have the tools).
We can knock out mine too. :-)

If it were that easy, I'd already have one. Finding an "honest Jaguar mechanic" is like winning the lottery. I have one Indy but very limited and no electrical. Of course that is why I am considering a change. I can no longer fix myself, nor find a "real Jaguar mechanic" that's reliable. Too bad. Finding any good mechanic these days is difficult. Most are quitting by the droves.

I’m lucky to have two. One pure JLR and one Jag only.
The latter has a small army of old XKEs lined up for work, so not going out of biz anytime soon.

And Boca, offer still stands. A gorgeous 10hr drive from here. Been too many years since I stopped for lunch In Savanna at the river walk. Would love an excuse.
Bonus, my buddy down there would stop bugging me to come visit. 🤣

Circumnavigator... Thank you for the generous offer. However, I no longer have appropriate tools or even skill sets to get our jobs done. I'd be happy to meet you, but as far as working on our Jags, not for me. I don't work at my home on cars, and besides, HOA regulations restrict most everything. I do thank you for the offer, and it would be nice to meet another car enthusiast that's crazy enough to buy a Jaguar! lol PS.... If you'd like, feel free to PM me your phone number... Eli

Fair enough. I’ll work out a long weekend with my buddy, he is between Mar A Lago and Boca, and PM ya.

I am fortunate enough to have 4 shops in the Indialantic Florida area that service Jags..... Moving from a 4 car garage in Columbus Ohio to a beach condo is a change in lifestyle..

What hasn;t changed is my love of Jaguars...at least what they USED to be!!!

BEST of luck on your impending decision.

If it was a convertible I would have been interested!!!

Pete
