Default Airbag fault light

Not sure if it's a genuine airbag fault or just a dodgy electric as it doesn't always come on when driving. Anyone else experiencing this?

These cars don't have "dodgy electrics" - but what they do have is electronic modules that require full battery voltage at all times. When they do not get it, random electronic glitches crop up, including random warning lights. The first thing to consider is the battery - for any electrical issue.
That said, the common cause of the airbag light coming on is a problem with the "clockspring" in the steering column (although I have not heard of this being a problem on the XK, I have just had the clockspring replaced in an XJ8 for the same reason. Clockspring failures are common in all makes of vehicles, not just Jaguars). But do check the battery first; if it is more than 3 years old, replace it. If the car is not used daily, get a CTEK battery maintainer and use it when the car is not actually being driven.

Excellent info, thank you.

First I'll check the batter. If it's not that, it might simply have a fault!

Hey Hayden. The SRS warning light requires DTC codes to properly diagnose it. They cannot be read by a generic code reader.

If your battery checks out, you will need Jaguar specific DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) for anyone to help you.

If you aren't a DYI'er, you'll be taking it in to a dealer or Indy anyway and that's the first thing they'll do.

In case you weren't already aware (some folks aren't), when your SRS light is on, your airbags will not deploy.

FYI, the codes will still be stored in the system even if your warning light is off so you don't need to wait until it's on to take it in.

Please let us know what you find out.

Gregory's post is spot on. I had the airbag light as well and I had to replace the clockspring twice on my 2007 XK. Luckily it was under warranty by the Jaguar dealership that replaced it the first time.
