Default Always wanted an Embarglo car with white interior

I've always wanted a car with white interior and embarglo paint. When I picked up the XK with Ivory seats..... well it was only a matter of time.

The paint on my car is the one thing about that has always disappointed me a little (I bought the car sight unseen). There were some pretty big scratches that went through the clear on the hood, nose, and drivers quarters.

However I wasn't so sure I wanted a copper car enough that I was willing to drop the coin on a color change paint job without having lived with it first.

I've been following the plastidip craze for about 4 years now, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give a whirl. I don't have to get the paint perfect, because if I really do like the color I'm going to spring for a respray, and if I don't like it then I'll just peel it off.

I started with 3 gallons of matte red for a base, then went with 1.5 gallons of high gloss clear with 75 grams of burnt copper alloy pearl.

Unfortunately there was some pretty poor lighting in my garage, and I couldn't tell how much coverage I was getting with the pearl. The sides and roof look great, but there is some serious striping on the hood. Luckily that is easily fixed with a couple more coats of pearl. Maybe I'll have time next week to throw a few more coats on. But it doesn't really matter because if I still like after a few months I'll have it done proper with a real BC/CC this summer.

It's an interesting way to see if you'd like a color change and I'd say pretty brave. The problem I see is that it doesn't have that deep finish which I assume you are looking for. It is also difficult for me to determine if I like it because the coating is not even as you mentioned. All you need to do is please yourself so if you like it then go for it. Keep us posted as I'm sure a respray is going to be interesting to the form .

Nice work AJZ! Love the enthusiasm. Think it would need different wheels and maybe a couple other slight mods but cool color and great effort. Keep us abreast please

I love the color. I'd get rid of the Taurus wings on the front. It's hard to pick a crappy color on cars shaped like the XK.

I think it looks awesome. I have always loved that copper/bronze color. I tried to get the radiant ember color on my Maxima but there were just none for sale any where.

I too would love to see what a set of black rims would look like. And I also agree...it is impossible to make that car look bad. I'd love to see someone do one in pink!!!!

Same here. That is my lottery winning Bentley color scheme.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

And the mustang is a true labor of love. 3 years of blood (literally 2 ER trips), sweat, and tears. I started with a rolling shell and rebuilt it from scratch.

I've never been a fan of black rims because they blend too much with the tires, but I'm contemplating gunmetal rims.

The Jag looks fantastic in the shade. You can only see the stripping in the pearl when the sun hits it, I'm definitely going to have to make time to put a few more coats on and get it evened out.

As to the depth, I have 2 gallons of clear I can put on if I want it to get glossy, but I'm kind of digging the satin finish right now.

I have to say it is a very unique and attractive colour. Nice job!

After looking at the pics a few times I have to say that the colour is growing on me. That's quite the undertaking. I have plasti-dipped a few things prior to committing to real paint but have never undertaken a job as big as a car. My next plastidip shall be on one of my spare wheels. Going to try the gun metal look. Good on you…… but, you will have to let us know how the removal of the dip goes if and when you do it.

As a Sooner, born and bred, I'd have to say that's the ugliest xk i've ever seen . I admire your bravery though.

I agree on gun metal color wheels. That is what I'd go with.

Did you paint inside the door jams, etc..

As a lifelong Husker fan, I concur. Far too close to "burnt orange' for my tastes!

As a hardcore crimson tide fan, I have had to tell many people that "it is not orange, because god hates orange. It is copper"

+1 on keeping the satin finish.

Beautiful color. Very unique.
