Every 12 v CTEK CHARGER including the least expensive is correct for your 4.2 or for that matter, any car. The CTEK unit which is sold by Jaguar and branded by Jaguar ( and every other luxury make)?is the smallest and least expensive unit.
I have used these for years, connected for months on end. Result: instant starts, zero electrical issues.

 

I am using the CTEK 40-206 MXS 5.0 Automatic 4.3 Charger/Maintainer 12v on both my XK8 and XJ8 with the quick connect pig tail w/o issues w/starting, maintaining or electrical.

 

Dude, you posted on a thread that is 5-1/2 years old. It's probably mostly irrelevant now, and the OP is not around anymore.
Also, and absolutely no offense, you wandered into the X150 forum and not the XK8 (X100) forum. You're welcome here, but may be more comfortable in the correct forum.

 

Yea I didn't realize the date but I suspect it is still relevant as other folks still would want to know that it works without an issue; however, I did realize I was in the X150 forum though.
