It has got to be picked up by recovery tomorrow to be taken to the garage as i couldnt get the belt back on for the life of me.
That 4.2 belt is probably the most difficult fitment on any car I have worked on over the last 55 years. It would have been made much easier if Jaguar had made it easy to unbolt and re-attach the secondary air pipework but removing that assembly is a major job in itself.
The car is being picked up shortly, I spoke with jaguar service and its having a full diagnostic first, this is to make sure its not something other than the alternator, then if it is fit a new alternator and then a health check, hopefully have it back for saturday.
Off down to collect the car later today, the alternator was shot and the 8 month old battery wont charge, so i will contact bosch about it as its under warranty.
All is good had a nice drive home.
Question, underneath the car you have the front splash guard under tray, then when you take that off there is another black plastic guard tray that is attached underneath. it has a high side on the right hand and a slot on the left hand side each side looking different. I tried looking for it in the jpec but i cant find it also a lot of images are missing.
Anyone have any idea what this small guard part number is? thanks
Update: found it.
part number is: c2p5347 Center Lower Engine Cover
If I remember right, the Non-/R 4.2 models had only the right-hand air filter box. That would make the above picture correct for the base 4.2 car. All supercharged and everything with a 5.0 had dual air boxes, one each side. I certainly don't guarantee my assessment as I've not seen a non-supercharged 4.2 lower cover though.

so this covers the base just inside of the radiators and steering rack, then there is the larger undertray splash shield over the top of it.
The JEPC has missing image files in it and I am unable tocheck this part properly, I even re-installed it to make sure.

The air filter box is on the left-hand side (at least on the LHD cars), but I just don’t recall that second plastic guard on mine (but it’s been awhile since I took off the big splash guard).

Thank you sir, now I know. Sorry, Unklebuck, I was wrong.
Good to hear you got the charging problem fixed. I thought you had a 5l. I replaced the battery, alternator, and BMS negative cable and my new AGM battery seems not to be charging. I have no codes or electrical issues. If I don't connect the battery maintainer daily after awhile the car is slow to turn over. I also have a battery charge indicator connected to the battery maintainer port. After a charge it goes green; however, after driving the car it goes red. Oh well I'll just live with it.

Yes car is running fine, I am looking at getting the pipework changed soon and a few other things done. other than that ok "touch wood"!!
I replaced my alternator with a Denso. It is not a difficult job. You don't have to remove the idler pulley if you use a ratchet open wrench on the upper bolt. When you remove the 2 bottom bolts, and disconnect the battery cable loosen the top bolt with the closed ratchet wrench and drop the alternator to unplug the wire connector. The wire connector has thin wires and you don't want to break them at the connector. The connector is a little difficult to disconnect without dropping it to gain access.
Can you share the Denso Part number? Also, which engine? Thanks!

While I'm at it, anyone replaced the regulator assembly on these? They wear out long before the alternator does.
