Default Battery problem?

Tried to sync my phone (unsucessfully) yesterday. --thats another issue for a different post. I sat in the garage with the car on "accessory" with the fan blowing etc, for maybe max five min before I gave up. One reason I gave up is that I got a low battery warning which said that the car would shut off the climate control system. I powered off, and tried to go into accessory again and the climate/nav screen remained off. I stated the car OK this morning. Seemed like the starter was just a little slow. Only had this 2010 XKR a few days. Got another problem with what I believe is the "aspirator" noise. It starts as soon as I open the door, and stays on for some time after I turn the car off. Best I can figure 15-30 min. Seems a bit noisy to me. will be contacting Jag service for advice. So, do I need a new battery? Any chance that this is a warranty item? If not should I go aftermarket?

I've seen a number of CarFax reports for 2010 XKs mentioning battery replacement. Not sure if it's a warranty item but if not, they aren't that expensive outside the dealership. I had one replace in my 2007 XK at Firestone for $165. It went out again a couple years later and was replaced free by same Firestone dealer.

I've been thru 3 batteries on my 2008 XKR and all were covered under the factory warranty, which just ran out. I don't drive it that much and since the last replacement (February) I got the "Battery Tender Plus" and charge it about every 2 weeks and haven't had a problem since. It normally takes 18-24 hrs to fully charge since it is only a 1 1/2 amp charger. If I notice the Nav screen slowing when I start the car I know it's time for a charge.

When syncing the phone make sure you put the phone itself on "Discover Mode". Sometimes it takes a few tries.

Buy a CTEK 3300 and the battery will recover in less than 20 minutes or less after driving if you plug the CTEK in all the time.

My CTEK is automatically plugged into the car after each drive. It's like brushing your teeth every morning. Plugging in the CTEK 3300 becomes a habit.

richzak, sounds like a prudent plan. How do you use this thing? Do you plug it into your cigar lighter, and if so, does it come with this attachment? What path do you use to run a wire into the car and still keep the car closed?

Default Battery life when parked

After 4 yrs and numerous failures after not driving 2010 XK parked for two days, I replaced battery just a few months ago. I still have the same problem unless I remember to attach the battery maintainer. This seems to be a vehicle problem with the XK and not a battery problem. What do XK owners do when they leave the car in a plane terminal for two or three days?

So far, those of us that switched over to an AGM battery have stopped having these problems, and don't we need a maintainer.
In truth, a little more time is needed to prove our AGM decision was justified over repeated OEM battery replacements (and PITA maintainers), but I am confident the newer technology batteries will win the day.

Sounds odd - mine's the same age, and will be fine after a week or more. Do you always lock the car? It takes a lot longer (over 30 mins) to fully shut down if it isn't locked, and it draws about 10 Amps when powered up.

Also, there's a service bulletin regarding a 1.6A power drain from the infotainment system if your VIN is B32753-B42709:

JTB00213 Flat Battery.pdf

If that software upgrade hasn't been done, that could be the cause of your problem.

A bit of an update. Took the car to the dealer and the aspirator was bad, and replaced. No noise now. They tested the battery and said that it was good. Replacment would have been warranty under the standard 4 yr warranty, but will not be covered under my Jag extended warranty. They claimed that this car has "30" computers and sucks a lot of juice, evern for a while when it's off. I have hooked up the CTEK, and it took overnight for it to go from charge to "green" light. Car started fine with no symptoms after sitting for a week or so. Wish I could have gotten a replacement battery out of Jag, but once it goes I'll switch to an AGM type. Probably still use the charger as there is an AGM setting on it.
