Default Battery Registration?

Does a new battery have to be registered on the x150 computer like BMWs?

No, there's no battery control module on the Jag requiring registration. You may have to reset some options (windows, seat, radio code in non U.S. models if disconnected more than 72 hours) but no, there's no registration procedure.

Q&C,

That is an uncharacteristically cryptic response from you!

So...how does one "register" the battery?

Depends what on what kind of ceremony is planned. The days of a formal registry for china and silverwear at the snooty department store are pretty much gone.

When a dealer installs the battery, he also programs the ecu.
Brutal confirmed it as well if you dont take my word for it.

Cee Jay asked for what purpose. To establish the capacity.

Sean is there something in the SSD.

Our car is not as smart as a thermos that knows how to keep warm drinks warm and cold ones cold. Mainly because it thinks too much.

Right. On the 2010 and up there is a Battery Monitoring System module connected to the negative terminal. You are supposed to have the dealership "reset" the stored setting from the old battery so the system can send the correct charge voltage and duration of charge from the alternator. I was told after time, it will re-calibrate itself so it's not absolutely necessary. Not sure how true that is but it made sense so I opted not to.

<MY2010, no reset is necessary.

My mistake. It appears to apply to 2010 and newer.

Per the 2010 service manual:

BATTERY REPLACEMENT
If it is determined that a battery requires replacement, always refer to the appropriate section of the workshop manual for instructions on removing and installing the battery from the vehicle.
On in service vehicles fitted with a Battery Monitoring System (BMS), the BMS module must be reset following the installation of a new battery. The BMS module reset procedure must be performed using an approved diagnostic system.

It doesn't exist on my 07 and isn't in referenced in the 07-09 service manual.

EDIT: Sorry Shemp. I missed your post above the attachment.

If'n ya ask me, and nobody did, that's just another way for the dealers to take away your money. The book says it'll relearn anyway.
