Default Brake Pad Recommendation

'07 XK base Convertible. 20" Sentas

I need new brake pads on the front and back. I'd prefer ceramic. What's your recommendation and where is the best place to get them.

I have Posiquiet ceramic pads on my 12 vert. I got them from Tire Rack. I have no complaints and their shipment was pretty quick.

I replaced mine last year, just could not stand the brake dust. I found
Amazon had Akebono EUR1095 rear pads
TireRack had the fronts EUR1241
Could not find anyone that sold both although my indy was able to get them.
I did not show prices, as they probably have changed.

Good luck

We will have to agree to disagree. Ceramics don't bite enough for me. Brake dust comes with the territory. Nonetheless I change pads as soon as they wear down to 2mm.. Akebonis, brembos and brake performance plus all have suitable options.

Jag OEM pads dust like crazy. I don't get 1/4 the dust in my Lotus and it grabs like nobody's business. I like the Akebono pads in my VDP and would've gone with them in the XK had I needed to replace them. Stick with OEM rotors.

I had planned on powder coating the calipers.

Centric Posiquiet in fronts and Akebono Proacts in the rear. Stops great, no more noise and almost no dust at all.

Replaced all four OEM, which dusted like no tomorrow, with EBC rotors and EBC "Red Stuff" pads 25K miles ago. Brake dust reduced by at least 90%. The car stops when I put my foot on the brake pedal.

In 2013 my cost for the pads was $143. for the front set and $95. for the rear set.

I'll replace with the same when it becomes necessary.

Advance Auto sells the Akebono pads. Between $60-70 for the rear set, if I recall correctly.

Got me curious, as the indy I went to a couple of weeks ago said my fronts were 80% worn, so I had to check.

For my ZIP code, Advance Auto lists the Akebono's as $126.52 for the front set, and $101.52 for the rear set.

Interesting. I'll have to check my receipt this evening.

Speaking about brake pads …
About how many KMs should I expect to get. A Yellow warning just popped up about low brake pads. I have roughly 51,000 KM on my 2010 XKR.

On my 07 XK, prior owner replaced rears at 22,000 miles. I just replaced the fronts at 32,500 miles. The rears only have about 30% left.

Brake pad life is determined by driving conditions, driver's driving style and the quality of the brake pads themselves.

Front brake pads typically wear faster due to weight transfer upon braking.

I have a 2014 xkr convertible and the newer Jag brakes are set up with most of the braking force coming from the rears so that the nose does not dive under hard breaking. I am doing my first pad replacement in the rears at 17000 miles. The fronts are still like new. Jaguar updated the pads now with better clips and springs. They had found that the pads were actually touching the rotors when the wheels were spinning even without applying the brakes, which is part of the reason for the excess brake dust. This fix comes at a price. The original Jaguar pads are $135 and the new improved ones are (hold your breath) $587.

Hopefully I misunderstood your post. Are you saying that replacement pads (4 pads) for the rear are $587 ? Is this just the pads or does it include installation. Does this include rotors and other brake hardware. I'm having a hard time understanding the cost when other brands cost from $100-$150 a set.

$587 is for the pad set for the two rear tires. It includes the one brake pad sensor. Labor is another $140. $727 installed. It has upgraded springs and clips to help keep the pad from touching the rotor when the brakes are not in use. They said it's the same part number for the XKR-S. The original pad that came with the car is $135 plus $60 for the sensor plus labor. $335 installed.

You can purchase ceramic pads from tire rack for about $80 - 90 per pair. I paid $77 for the pads and I had the dealer install them.

I would love to try ceramic brake pads but the dealer doesn't wont install aftermarket parts. They also tried to discourage me by saying customers who used ceramic brakes complained of squeaking and came back to have them changed to back to stock.

Thanks for the info. As I usually change my own brake pads I'll most likely go to ceramics when the time comes.

Got the front Akebono's from TireRack for $90 and just installed them today. Took a test drive tonight, no squeaks, real quiet. Think I'm going to like them, especially if they are low dust (cleaned each wheel before putting them back on, so I can monitor for dust).
