That's strange. I use an iCarsoft and it doesn't cause any problems with our 2007 XK. However, I am always careful to shut down the engine and ensure the car electrics are off before turning off the reader and unplugging it.

Wondering that too; get a "brick" occasionally when disconnecting my IcarSoft...

If the engine is not running then you have to turn off the electrics. If the engine was running then turning off the engine will turn off the electrics.

Default Battery is to blame

Thank you, all who responded. A new battery solved the problem. I still have to reprogram the seat modules and I will try it after my new cable arrives. I will be sure to connect the battery maintainer before I begin SDD.

Good news. I don't think the battery maintainer will give you enough amps - maybe a regular charger, better still a high amp 12.5 vdc power supply.

Yeah, Jaguar recommends at least 20 amps for your car, and at least 40 amps for the 5.0 models.
When I run SDD my charger provides 26 amps constantly, with jumps up into the 30s.
I have this:

I did a little research on this issue and agree. I am going to use a 13.8 volt 50 amp power supply. Thanks again for all your help.

@synrgy good call. Jaguar recommends 25 amp for you model so 50 amp will be more than sufficient. I use the Astron RM-50. It's low noise. If I were to do it over, I'd get one with a gauge but that's small potatoes. Regardless of how long any programming takes using SDD, its good practice to keep your doors closed while doing it if possible, including the boot.
Good luck, hope it goes smooth this time around.

If you want you can simulate the boot/trunk being closed by closing the latch with a screwdriver leaving the door open for your maintainer wiring & battery access. But remember to open the trunk latch with key or trunk button before slamming the trunk closed

Curious as to why such a high current charger is needed when using SDD. My teensy brain is struggling for a reasonable explanation.

Because every module and system is on and running without engine power to run the alternator???

The current draw’s massive when writing to multiple modules. This’s true of all makes, not just Jaguar, and a rechargeable battery’s not stable/reliable enough over time. It’s also critical that an appropriate supply’s used, one that’s low noise low ripple as noisy power can corrupt data.

Thanks for the 'reasonable' explanation. 😉

And the lesson learned…. when a battery is done, its done. Just replace it and move on.
