Car Insurance
Wow guys thanks to this thread! .
I though my insurance through Geico was the cheapest around, I'm paying around $2200 per year for full coverage for 3 cars: 08xkr, 00 e55, 15 chevy volt. Just went online And got a quote through Hagerty and it's half the price at $1100 per year for similar coverage and 0 deductible vs $250 I have now. Whats the catch here ? Seems to good to be true!!

Usage
A policy through Hagerty allows you to use your collector vehicle for club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and even occasional pleasure driving—it just can't be your daily driver.
Im confused .. I put in 10k miles on the quote on the volt as it's a daily driver, so Hagerty won't cover that car?

Didn't know Hagerty insured non-classixs. Hmm. Anyway, for those daily drivers I have AARP, the Hartford. Qualified at 50. I shop them every year. Have 3 cars insured with them. Full coverage in ATL market. Less than $2k per year. Lowest by several hundred dollars. USAA and GEICO don't even come close.
dave, I am trying to understand how you have concluded that the Hagerty and Taylor policies have the same restrictions. I just don't see it.
From the Taylor application:
I don't use my XK for exhibitions, club activities, parades or an other function of public interest. I drive it for my own and my wife's enjoyment, period. I am not going to lie on the application by checking the box shown.
From the Hagerty website:
It is clear to me that my use of the XK fits perfectly with Hagerty's requirements - a car driven for pleasure and not a daily driver. I don't have to lie or shade the truth with Hagerty.
So I don't see how you can say "they all have the same requirements." Does this make sense to you?
Maybe consider keeping a glittery Top Hat and a fancy Baton in the back seat, and put the hat on and carry the baton when the cops come to investigate the wreck? Just tell them you are on the way back from a Parade and you'll be covered!
Too bad Calithumpian is too long for a vanity license plate, eh?
(make EVERY DAY a noisy, boisterous parade, don't fix your muffler!)

Hagerty does not seem as restrictive as Taylor. There is a mileage limitation, but the car does not need to be a show car. I am about to bind coverage with Hagerty. State Farm has confirmed that moving the XK to Hagerty will not affect the balance of our policies with them, except of course to eliminate the XK premium.
Policy summary and car definition info from my 2008 XKR policy is attached. I highlighted sections relating to usage.
Agreed value is $25k USD. Show car/parade use is fine but you aren't limited to that as you noted. I do not have a specific mileage limit for the car (I figure at about 3k miles on my insurance anniversary in February) but that may be a function of living in RI... PA insurance rules may be different. However, it is understood this is a limited use car (that is garaged) and having a daily driver car under a separate policy (don't believe Hagerty underwrites daily driver policies) for both myself and my wife was required. I pay $611 yearly but that is a function of locale, deductible limits, policy options, driving record, credit report, etc.
For my purposes, Hagerty fit the bill at a reasonable cost.
Happy New Year to you all!
Mike
Does anyone have "Hagerty Classic Car Insurance ?
They are located in my hometown and I have a number of friends working for them.
They insure cars around the world and have some pretty expensive and famous cars in their business.
They have a beautiful showroom with windows to the street that display a different car every three months or so.
Some of those are just classic while others have movie history.
Am looking at them to insure my 2010 XK,

I change insurance like every two-three years. Company rates change constantly, so I try to get the best rates and coverages when I can. Sometimes I can save $500 every six month premium. Sometimes a couple hundred, other times I keep what I already have. State Farm, USAA and Liberty Mutual seem to be the ones I usually end up with. USAA has good Property insurance rates sometimes also, but since I have a bunch of rental homes, their deals usually are either good Primary rates or good Investment rates. It's sometimes a pain to figure it all out.

Regarding my newly-started Hagerty policy, I am wondering how, if at all, the annual mileage I put on the application will be monitored by Hagerty and what if any enforcement is likely. I don't recall giving the "starting mileage" on the application. What happens on renewal? Does Hagerty ask for a statement of mileage driven in the last year? If so, how can they determine if I am being truthful? Of course, I would be, but...
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
I have had Hagerty insurance for a number of years. They have never asked for odometer mileage at renewal time and they haven't asked if my initial annual mileage estimate has changed. I've never had a claim, so can't tell you if they make any sort of inquiry at that point. Seems unlikely though since they wouldn't have anything to compare it to. I believe they are one of the few remaining companies that work on the honor system. I appreciate that, and will not do anything to breach their trust.
Not that it relates to your question, but I don't think I've ever exceeded the mileage I originally gave them. Seems I am over-optimistic as to how many miles I will drive my hobby cars per year....

When I applied, I put down 5,000 mi/year and thought that would be plenty. However, winter has been so mild and the roads relatively salt-free so far, and I find myself driving more than expected. At this pace, I might well exceed that number. I'd better be careful, since I would not want to jeopardize this good policy. I suppose I could go back and tell them to rate me at a higher mileage.
