Default Be careful when buying from the Marketplace

Hello, everyone. I wanted to share a recent experience I had in the marketplace, and from my research, it seems to be a growing trend in many car forums. I came across an individual selling some takobas, which, if you've read some of my comments, you'll know are my favorite rims for the XK. Even though I wasn't actively looking to change my rims, the pricing was too tempting to resist, so I decided to get a second pair of wheels for my XK.

I negotiated the price with the forum member, and since I was planning to be in Dallas (I live in Houston) in the first week of October, I offered to send a cashier's check for part of the price, with the intention of settling the rest during the pickup. After I sent the check, I informed the forum member and requested their contact information. However, at that point, the forum member ceased responding to my messages. Several days passed without any response, so I decided to notify him that I was going to cancel the cashier's check. Unfortunately, he never replied.

I'm not here to accuse or name the member in question, as there might be valid reasons for his lack of response. They could be facing personal issues or some other situation. However, the situation seemed quite sketchy, and I thought it best not to take any risks. After this incident, I did some further research on Google and discovered that this is a prevalent issue these days. It appears that some individuals register on forums, make comments to appear as legitimate community members, and then "sell" items they never actually deliver.

I hope this information proves useful to you all, so you can avoid potentially risking your hard-earned money in similar situations.

Sorry to hear about your potentially failed transaction, hopefully it gets worked out with a happy ending for all.

If you're going to prepay for anything on the internet sold by an individual, due diligence's in order. I long time and very active forum member's likely to be a safe bet, but someone new or rarely active on the forum would warranty further research and even a phone conversation. And there shouldn't be any hesitation on the part of the seller to provide verifiable reassurances and references should they be requested.

Some people negotiate to put the transaction up on ebay, with a "buy it now" price as agreed to. Seller notifies it's posted, buyer closes the deal immediately. Ebay acts as virtual escrow. Parties agree on how Ebay fee is paid. Makes sense if the ebay fee for a guarantee is worth the value of the deal.

That said, I got taken online for $100 in a venmo transaction, mainly because I couldn't believe that someone would go to all that effort for $100. Last time I buy anything directly with a venmo payment -- almost a guarantee of a scam.

I just wanted to let y’all know that today I finally meet @marcofromtrubulya and everything went great. He is a very honorable man and the wheels are in like new shape.
I personally apologized to him, and he totally understood the situation.

I still recommend to be careful when buying online. Most online buying stories have a happy ending like this one had.
